Our existing grinding mill is over 50 years old and has been in operation at Waihi since 1987. Project Quattro requires the mill to operate for a further 14 years, and at increased capacity. In order to meet this increased demand, the current mill will be upgraded.
The main components of the process plant upgrade are:
• Replacing the existing mobile and jaw crushers with a modular primary crusher.
• Adding milling capacity by installing the mill from the Reefton mine.
The crusher will be installed inside a new enclosed building to minimise noise and dust.
The new mill will be located at the site of our current pebble crusher, and its highest point will be about nine metres above the ground.
Temporary project facilities, such as offices, parking and equipment laydown yards will be required during the upgrades. These facilities will be built within the current footprint of the Process Plant and will be removed once the upgrade work is complete.
The Process Plant will continue to operate 24/7.
